To set up Anki for Japanese study, see Anki tools for Japanese study.

Anki is an electronic flashcard program. The program is highly configurable. Many different styles of decks and review cards are possible, including cards that include pictures and audio. The program has several useful features:

  • It can run on Windows, Macintosh, or Linux. There are also versions for
    • Your web browser via Anki Online,
    • iOS (iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad), and
    • Android
  • It uses a Spaced Repetition System (SRS) algorithm to space repetitions.
  • There is a free online syncing service to keep your study in multiple places.
  • There is a large library of free study resources

Anki also has a web interface, so you can review your cards wherever you go.
